In the 1970s and 80s, a few self-made heavies took a stranglehold of the Australian drug trade, turning small marijuana and heroin operations into massive-scale enterprises, paving the way for a new kind of organised crime. Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities, a prequel of sorts to the smash-hit first series, dramatises this tumultuous, often brutal period in the Australian underworld, where emerging kingpins faced off with Federal Police and politicians, leaving a string of bodies in their wake.
The series debuted to a record-breaking audience of more than two and half million people in early February 2009, eclipsing even the first series' incredible popularity. After placing music in the first series, GAGA placed Dawn Landes' 'Mud and Stars', The Tremolo Beer Gut's '9 Times The Pain', Powersolo's 'Good Behaviour', Winston Giles' 'Theme From The Burning Winchesters' and Symbiosis' 'Lime Twist' in the new series.
