Crocodylus 'Social Climber'

Crocodylus 'Social Climber'

Releases

A jangly garage rock anthem-in-waiting, “Social Climber” shows off Crocodylus at their most dynamic, with the trio thriving within the light and the shade, as the whisper-quiet bits pave the way for the parts so loud they’ll rattle your windows. It’s also Crocodylus’ most poignant song yet, with singer Josh Williams' refrain of ‘I tried so hard’ a particular point of emotional resonance right before an immense, cathartic breakdown. The single had its first spin last night on triple j’s Home & Hosed and can be heard below.

Frontman Josh Williams explains: “This song's about being in a relationship with someone who’s climbing the non existent social ladder. It’s about trying to make the relationship work but it all becomes too much. Manipulation and jealousy comes into play as well as some 12 string and organ action. The song was written a few years ago and it’s sick to see it finally recorded with a full band.”

“Social Climber” arrives after a massive start to 2020. Riding high after the release of their 2019 EP, Enjoy, which saw the band tour across Europe with everyone’s favourite ratbags The Chats and culminated with a string of sold out headline shows in Melbourne, Adelaide and their hometown of the Northern Beaches, everything was coming up Crocs until, well, we all know how the story of this year goes… It’s all good though, in the past month Crocodylus slayed some socially distanced live shows in Sydney and Wollongong, with the former’s tickets completely snapped up in just 12 hours.
