Releases

Fronting the next wave of Australian electronic music, producer Ninajirachi today shares the release of her latest EP, 4x4 out now via NLV Records. LISTEN HERE.

4x4 marks a new era for Ninajirachi, a listen that expands on her experimental approach to club music and is consciously guided by warmer, pop-inflicted tones of dance music production. Her songwriting and production takes charge as she finds herself pulling from her earliest influences of electronic music such as 2000's electro house and dance-pop such as Zedd and Porter Robinson to helm a space that embraces all sonic corners of dance music.

With the release, Ninajirachi threads previous releases ‘1x1 ft Ravenna Golden’ and ‘Undo U’, which landed support across Clash Magazine, AVVYS Magazine, Music Feeds, This Song Is Sick, triple j, and FBi Radio amongst others, to illustrate this nature at a glance. Kota Banks, who Ninajirachi produced The Atlantic's #8 Best Album of 2021 as True North, returns on the EP with ‘Kota On The Plane’, merging shape-shifting basslines and prismatic pop vocals for a hard and fast 150 BPM club weapon that is a testament to Nina’s consistent out-of-the-box production. This is followed by a bold 4x4 remix of ‘Undo U’ and spotlighted today, ‘Wayside’, a glitchy terrain that charts Ninajirachi’s proposition in the electronic space both locally and globally.

In her own words, she reveals, “Making music hasn't felt this fun and effortless for me since pre-pandemic. All of these songs were made in the last few months with my good friends and they were made very quickly, mostly in under a day, they're not that serious or deep, they felt fulfilling and easy to write and produce! On this release (& others to come) I've been pulling more and more inspiration from the dance music that changed my life as a child and getting closer to becoming the producer I dreamed of being when I first heard it.”

Firmly cementing her position in the Australian industry and international music landscape, Ninajirachi has capitalised on her travels with a recent North American tour and festival performances at Lollapalooza, Hard Summer, Breakaway Festival, and Imagine Festival. The uniqueness of her abilities extends past virtual limits, with a touring history that includes support shows with Mallrat, Charli XCX, What So Not, and Cashmere Cat, Ninajirachi set the touring circuit alight with sold-out headline shows in both Eora / Sydney and Naarm / Melbourne and a busy 2023 festival season playing Dark Mofo, Wildlands, Beyond The Valley, Field Day and Spilt Milk, of which NME Australia praised her as “the most underrated artist in Australian dance music”.

In 2022, Ninajirachi released her debut mixtape Second Nature, which saw her move the needle and attribute an impressive list of major career milestones including NME Magazine Australia’s cover story, garner playlisting on triple j, placements in Best of 2022 album lists for The Guardian Australia and NME respectively, praise from Bandcamp, Rolling Stone, The OZ, Pilerats, Music Feeds, Dublab and Crack Magazine, and more recently, a nomination for Record of the Year at FBi Radio’s upcoming SMAC Awards in November this year.

4x4 by Ninajirachi is out now via NLV Records.
